Feb 2008Jack Petchey Achievement Awards Over 100 Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders from across our County of Greater London North were presented with Jack Petchey Achievement Awards at The Peel Centre, Hendon, home of Metropolitan Police training on Wednesday 27th February. This total included 22 awards from Southgate District. |
Jan 2008Explorer success story One of Southgate District's biggest success stories in 2007 has been the regeneration of one of the four Explorer Scout Units in the District. During the summer, one of the Units, The Grovers, had to sadly close. However, in its place, a new Unit with a new Leader Team opened up in September. |

This is a picture of your District Commissioner jumping for joy with the news that The Scout Association's 2007 annual census figures show that Southgate District has increased its numbers for the second year in succession. Following a 4% jump in numbers last year, this year shows a further 1% leap. |
Team Extreme During the weekend of March 9th - 11th 2007, 17 Scouts attended this year's Team Extreme at Gilwell Park. This activity based event provides older Scouts basic skills in team working and they all had several opportunities to lead their team in various challenges. |

Well, for most of the world maybe, but for twenty nine members of the Greater London North Jamboree Unit it was time for bed as in eight or so hours time we were getting up to mark the start of 2007 and the Centenary of Scouting by taking part in the Lord Mayors parade through London. |

Cross Country Race and Cyclo-Cross On Sunday 26th November, 25 Scouts from 4 Troops gathered in heavy rain at Tolmers Camp site to compete in two events run in succession. First was the Cross Country, followed by the Cyclo Cross (i.e. a Cross Country Run on bikes). |

Sep 2006Ron Wood Trophy On Sunday 24th of September 2006, two teams from our troop took part in the Ron Wood Trophy in the Chiltern Hills as part of our training for the Chiltern 20 in October. We had one boys team and one girls team competing over a 10km route against four other teams from the 13th and 23rd Southgate all trying to win the trophy. |
Golden Celebrations Audrey Pizer, ACSL at the 19th Southgate, was merrily celebrating her Golden Wedding anniversary with her husband Alan on 9th September with 100 friends and family. Her evening was interrupted by Southgate District Commissioner, Chris Foster, who announced to everybody present that Audrey had completed a total of 22 years outstanding service to Scouting. |
Greater London North Jamboree Unit Cream Tea The GLN Jamboree Unit were in action again on Sunday 3 September at Scout Park. They supported the Galleon Fellowship who had organised a Cream Tea in order in order to raise funds for the Unit. |

Latest News from the GLN Jamboree Unit In July 2007 over 40,000 scouts from all over the world will be coming together for the 21st World Scout Jamboree which will also coincide with the 100th anniversary of Scouting. The Greater London North unit of 4 leaders and 36 Scouts (6 from Southgate) is just a small part of this. |

It may seem like a long way away to most but with an exciting year ahead planned, time will fly. Cub Scouts celebrate in style Over 100 Cub Scouts and Leaders from Southgate District celebrated 90 years of Cub Scouting at a huge weekend County Cub Camp at the excellent facilities on offer at Tolmers Scout campsite and activity centre in Cuffley. |
May 2006Apr 2006Mar 2006District Five-a-Side Football The competition was held this weekend and 13 teams took part. The 13th A team won the plate. For the shield, the 22nd and 23rd A won their groups and took part in the final. The 23rd A team won the final and so are this year's overall winners. |
Team Extreme a Great Success This weekend 23 Scouts from all around Southgate District took part in Team Extreme, a leadership and teamwork course. The weekend was all about practical experience, much of which was outdoors, and gave every young person a chance to be a leader on tasks. |
