Cub Scouts celebrate in style (18 Jun 06 1:52pm) Over 100 Cub Scouts and Leaders from Southgate District celebrated 90 years of Cub Scouting at a huge weekend County Cub Camp at the excellent facilities on offer at Tolmers Scout campsite and activity centre in Cuffley.
This was the first camp that Greater London North Scout County had organised for a few years and it turned out to be a major success. Everybody slept under canvas which was an adventure in itself for many of the younger Cubs.
During the weekend every Cub was allowed to visit bases that had been constructed to reflect the nine different decades of Cub Scouting. Creative and fun activities ranged from sending semaphore messages, to making garage music to flying to the moon.
The packed Saturday evening programme featured a grand campfire followed by a disco. With so many girls now enjoying Cub Scouting across the County, the disco proved to be one of the highlights of the weekend. It proved too much for a few of the adults who crept off to their tents leaving the Cubs to dance the night away in complete safety.
On Sunday, everybody tucked into a mammoth 90th celebration birthday cake.
Great credit must go to eight Southgate District Explorer Scouts and their Leaders who ensured that over 100 people were handsomely fed and watered at every meal throughout the weekend.
Finally, a big thank you to all the adults who gave up their weekend for Scouting, and to Prabodh and Sarah who managed everybody in Southgate District and ensured they had a memorable time.
