The Great and Good honoured at the District AGM (18 Jun 06 2:05pm) The Southgate District AGM was another successful coming together from everybody in the District.
A packed agenda ensured there was no doubt about the huge quantities of adventure, challenge and fun on offer to young people and adults in the District.
The highlight of the evening were the awards of County Commissioner's commendations to three key District personnel - Chairman Mike Moore, Appointments Secretary Ann Moore and Treaturer Andrew Anderson. These commendations were awarded by the new County Commissioner Barry Manley, who was making his first visit to Southgate in his new role. Barry praised the District for significantly growing Scouting in the last year and offering adventure to many more young people.
David Burrowes MP then told a packed audience that he was honoured to be present and congratulated all 100 adults in Scouting in Southgate who made it all possible.
The World Scout Jamboree team leaders from the County contingent were the next act on stage. They gave a rousing update that the unit was working extremely well as a team. An advertisment went out to all adults if they wanted to become part of the International Service Team they must contact the District Commissioner straight away.
Finally, top billing went to Tom and Paul from The Grovers Explorer Unit who took up the challenge to successfully complete the famous Devizes to Westminster canoe race and gave a thrilling verbal and visual report.
District Commissioner Chris Foster summed up by saying "I am incredibly proud to help manage such a highly committed team of adults in Southgate who are involved in doing so much outstanding work to help develop so many young people through Scouting in Southgate".
