Southgate Leaders Prepare For Diversity (28 Jun 06 9:35pm) Scout Leaders from across Southgate District are preparing themselves to celebrate diversity in Southgate from the beginning of next year.
Under the expert eye of County Training Manager, Stuart Sinclair, 22 Leaders went through one of the Adult Training Modules (Module 7) entitled "Managing Diversity". They were put through their paces and are ready to implement Scouting's Equal Opportunities policy.
This is that no young person in Scouting should receive less favourable treatment on the basis of, nor suffer disadvantage by reason of:
class;
ethnic origin, nationality (or statelessness) or race;
gender;
marital or sexual status;
mental or physical ability;
political or religious belief.
UK Scouting has agreed that all Groups should make provision for all young people, girls and boys, to be accepted into all Sections from 1st January 2007. This is because we believe that young people grow into more effective citizens when they live and work together, learning and understanding more about each other.
District Commissioner Chris Foster said "This is just one of the exciting ways to celebrate Scouting's Centenary throughout 2007."
