GLN Jamboree Unit - The first to Hylands Park? (16 Nov 06 1:10pm) As part of their fund raising activities the Enfield District members of the Greater London North Jamboree Unit under took a hike to Hylands Park, the site of the World Scout Jamboree in 2007.
The hike started at Gilwell Park on the Friday night with a camp in a storm. The team started hiking on Saturday heading for Skreens Park Scout Camp in Essex for their second night out. Having camped the previous night in a storm the thought of camping in wet kit was not appealing. The Warden at Skreens Park came to the rescue allowing the team to use a hut for the night (for free) where they were able to dry out and prepare for the final push to Hylands.
The five members of the team (Emily, Hannah, Andrew and the two Roberts) and were supported by one of the Leaders from the Unit with help from other members of the Enfield District. Enfield District is based in North London just inside the M25.
The Enfield District Commissioner, Mark Dowsett, was there at the start of the hike but had to return for Remembrance Day duties. Mark said that the team show great teamwork in carrying out the hike and were all looking forward to the Jamboree in 2007.
The hike of some 30km was not only a successful fundraising exercise (raising over £400) but also allowed the members to get to know each other better.
The Team would like to thank all those who helped and supported them in the hike and they hope that the weather will be kinder next summer. |
