New Year's Day Parade (15 Jan 07 9:59pm)
Dong, Dong, Dong; you've finished your countdown, drunk your champagne, sang Old Langs Syne and even watched the fireworks from your garden and then you think, time for some more partying? Well, for most of the world maybe, but for twenty nine members of the Greater London North Jamboree Unit it was time for bed as in eight or so hours time we were getting up to mark the start of 2007 and the Centenary of Scouting by taking part in the Lord Mayors parade through London.

The Lord Mayors New Years Day Parade is a spectacular event that takes place every year throughout the streets of London and this year was no exception. 10,000 of the worlds finest performers representing 20 countries world-wide assembled in Parliament Square to entertain the 500,000 spectators who braved the cold weather to show their support, as well as the 200m plus viewers who watched the parade on their televisions in their cosy homes across the five continents.

With so many people watching this great event, it was the perfect opportunity for scouting to let the whole world know about 2007 being its centenary year and to show off how much joy it has brought to 28 million scouts all over the world.

So at 10am on New Year's Day the GLN Jamboree Unit joined all the other Greater London Jamboree Units in spreading the word about scouting; nearly 300 scouts shouted, screamed and cheered their way along the two mile route following the Enfield District Scout Band, who helped to draw in the attention with their world class performance.

The parade was the first big event that marked the centenary of scouting and a big congratulations is in order to everyone who took part in marking the occasion, they also deserve a well done for managing to get up so early and be in such a good mood!

Once again we've made it onto the front page of the Scout website with our amazing exploits. Read all about it in the
Weekend Report.

Here's to yet another great year of Scouting. Happy 2007!
