Young Leader Training Weekend (11 Nov 07 10:08pm)
The first ever Southgate District Young Leader Training weekend has taken place at Gilwell Park, the spiritual home of Scouting.

A remarkable turnout of 33 Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across the District enjoyed a thought provoking journey through a total of five modules from Young Leaders Essentials, getting their heads around topics such as the new Orange Card, risk assessments, Scout Association rules, different styles of leadership, how younger members learn, the importance of games and effective communication. The participants worked well together in a fun way and gave encouraging feedback at the end for more of the same. A total of 18 highly motivated adults in Scouting came along to help these Young People along the road to becoming tomorrow's Leaders.

Course participant Liz said "We were taught so much, and it was totally different from being at school". Callum added "The weekend was very good and we learnt a lot of new stuff".

District Commissioner Chris Foster now has a new resourse in the shape of 33 Young Leaders to enhance Scouting in Southgate District. He said "These Young People were amazing. It's really pleasing to realise that the future of Scouting is safe in their hands".

The course even found time to attend the Greater London North County World Scout Jamboree presentation on the Saturday evening, and on the Sunday morning at 1100 hours they took part in their own act of Remembrance in Gilwell Park's open air chapel.

And to crown it all off, a new District Explorer Scout Leader and eleven Explorer Scouts were invested in a mass ceremony right underneath The Gilwell Oak
