Welcome to Winchmore Hill Explorer Scout Unit (WHESU) where adventure, challenge, and growth come together! Based in the heart of Southgate District, our Explorer Scout Unit is for young people aged 14 to 18 who want to take their Scouting journey to the next level. Whether you’re scaling mountains, planning expeditions, or leading the way in your community, Explorers is where you can achieve incredible things while having the time of your life.

Our Unit is all about adventure, leadership, and friendship, offering members the freedom to shape their own Scouting experience. From outdoor challenges to international opportunities, we provide a dynamic and inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to thrive.
Our Programme
At WHESU no two weeks are the same! Our member-led programme is packed with exciting activities that challenge you to push your limits, including:
- Adventurous Activities: Hiking, climbing, kayaking, and camping under the stars.
- Leadership Development: Opportunities to plan activities, lead teams, and inspire younger Scouts as part of the Young Leader Scheme.
- Skill Building: Learn navigation, first aid, bushcraft, and more, earning badges along the way.
- Community Projects: Make a difference through conservation work, volunteering, and fundraising initiatives.
- International Expeditions: Take part in global Scouting events like the World Scout Moot, Explorer Belt, and cultural exchanges.

- Duke of Edinburgh Award: Achieve your Bronze, Silver, or Gold DofE Award with full support from our experienced leaders.
- King’s Scout Award: The pinnacle of Scouting in the UK, recognising leadership, community service, and adventure.
- Explorer Belt: A life-changing international expedition that combines travel, cultural immersion, and team challenges.
- Activity Badges: Earn badges in climbing, water sports, digital skills, first aid, and more.

When and Where We Meet
We meet weekly mostly in Winchmore Hill where our activities kick off in a welcoming and well-equipped environment.
