Safeguarding

At Southgate District Scouts, safeguarding is our top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where all young people and volunteers can thrive.

Our Commitment

We adhere to The Scout Association’s Safeguarding Policy, which outlines our responsibilities to protect members from harm, including neglect, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. This policy applies to everyone in Scouts, including all volunteers and staff. (The Scout Association, The Scout Association)

How We Ensure Safety

  • Mandatory Training: All volunteers complete safeguarding training every three years to stay informed about best practices. (The Scout Association)
  • Code of Conduct: Our Safeguarding Code of Conduct for Adults (Yellow Card) outlines the behaviour expected of all adults in Scouts and the procedures for reporting concerns. (The Scout Association)
  • Reporting Concerns: Any safeguarding concerns are reported directly to the UK HQ Safeguarding Team as soon as possible and always within 24 hours. (The Scout Association)
  • Safe Scouting Cards: We utilise resources like the Purple Card, which provides step-by-step guidance on emergency procedures and staying safe within Scouting. (The Scout Association)
